Single protozoons can have different extensions, e.g. Flagellen, Fimbrien or Pili. These extensions are often used for locomotion or for attaching to surfaces. They can be detected and characterized by image processing means. This includes both the measurement of the lengths, the number of respective extensions and, if necessary, the determination of the movement patterns (tracking).
