In order to track the path of steel slabs, they are first labeled by machine in the factory. A small percentage of the slabs needs, however, to be labelled manually. Before the slabs leave the factory, they are checked via an image processing system. The test station developed by us has implemented a software for font recognition and recognizes the sequence of numbers on the slabs (optical character recognition, OCR). In case of inconsistencies, a message is sent to the operator on the screen.
